Lauren Mikaela Glenn is an engineer, designer, and artist who deeply integrates those making-based disciplines in her shop work and her teaching.
In her making practice, Lauren focuses on the design of repeatable fabrication processes through the development of form language. Her current wood turning work is heavily influenced by her experiences in precision machine shops and hot glass studios, her theoretical understanding of materials and form from her engineering training, and her observation of and love for patterns of nature.
Lauren designs her courses with a focus on material iteration, encouraging students to observe each model, prototype, or experiment they make in order to find insights about form, production, or utility. Lauren currently teaches Design Principles and woodworking courses in the department of Industrial Design at the Rhode Island School of Design.
